Learning should be about the power of what you can achieve. Unfortunately
as we've moved on from the industrial revolution education has moved towards
cramming more and more information into a students mind.
Today we're part of
the information revolution where we have 11 million
bits of information coming in every minute. Of which we can consciously process
approximately 40 bits. So it strikes me that it is futile to cram anything more
into the incoming stream. Learning has been shown to be more effective when the
learner is motivated to seek the information they require.
So my philosophy is to reverse our thinking back to when the problem
and the journey were what inspired us and we sought knowledge to achieve an end
not for the sake of knowledge.
Put the problem out there and let the journey define the learning. The posts
which follow this will document my journey working with teachers, students and anyone who is enthused and passionate to discover what this can look like in a formal or informal setting.
I look forward to you exploring it with me.
